Privacy Policy
Privacy Policy
We are highly focused on being as transparent as possible, and for us at TeXise that means having a privacy policy that is straightforward and easy to understand.
Business name: TeXise
The website is hosted by OVH. Server-side data used by TeXise is stored on dedicated OVH infrastructure in the Sydney region.
Your data
TeXise is designed to be local first.
Your LaTeX projects, documents, research materials, source files, compiled PDFs, bibliographies, uploaded assets, generated content, local AI data, API keys, workspace data, and other project content are not automatically uploaded to TeXise's account servers unless you explicitly use a feature that requires server-side processing or storage.
Where supported, TeXise stores project and workspace data locally in your browser or through browser-supported filesystem access. This helps keep your research and writing data under your control.
Some TeXise features may require authenticated server access. When you explicitly use one of these features, only the information required to provide that feature is transmitted to the server.
Your TeXise account may store information required to operate the service, including your email address, profile information, account preferences, licence or subscription entitlements, support information, and limited operational data.
TeXise does not automatically maintain copies of your local projects simply because you are signed in to your account.
If you choose to use a third-party AI provider through a Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) feature, requests sent to that provider are subject to that provider's own privacy policy and terms. Where the feature is designed to operate locally, TeXise does not need to permanently store your AI provider credentials on its servers.
We never sell your personal data.
We do not share your personal data with other companies, communities, or individuals except where it is necessary to provide a service you explicitly use, comply with applicable law, process payments or licensing, operate essential infrastructure, or where you have otherwise authorised us to do so.
Where we collect analytics, we aim to keep that information anonymous or aggregated wherever practical. We do not need to know every action taken by an identifiable individual in order to improve TeXise.
We may use anonymized or aggregated usage information to improve TeXise. This may include information such as page views, feature usage, application errors, compilation errors, performance information, and similar operational data that helps us identify and resolve problems.
We collect the minimum amount of personal data reasonably required to provide TeXise, maintain accounts and entitlements, support users, protect the service, and improve the product.
Nothing more than we reasonably need.
You have the right to request deletion of the personal data associated with your TeXise account, regardless of where you live. If you would like your account data deleted, please contact us by email and we will process your request as soon as reasonably possible.
Note: deleting your account may also remove associated licences, purchases, subscriptions, account entitlements, cloud-stored content, and access to premium features associated with that account.
Data stored only on your own device, browser, or local filesystem may need to be deleted locally by you because TeXise may never have received or stored that data.
Cookies
We use cookies and similar browser technologies where they are required to operate TeXise, maintain sessions, remember preferences, improve security, and provide a better user experience.
We do not intentionally set cookies that serve no reasonable purpose.
Privacy is important to us, and we aim to keep the number of cookies and tracking technologies used by TeXise to a minimum.
Some third-party services used by TeXise may set their own cookies or similar technologies. Where analytics services are used, we aim to configure them to minimise the collection of personally identifiable information.
An advanced web application like TeXise may require cookies, local storage, browser databases, cache storage, filesystem permissions, or similar browser capabilities in order to function correctly.
These technologies may also be used to support TeXise's local-first architecture by keeping project, editor, and workspace data on your device rather than transferring it to our servers.
Intellectual property
The content you create, write, upload, import, compile, or otherwise add to TeXise remains yours.
This may include research papers, LaTeX source files, bibliographies, notes, images, figures, tables, datasets, PDFs, uploaded resources, generated files, and other content you create or manage using TeXise.
Using TeXise does not transfer ownership of your content to us.
You are responsible for ensuring that you have the appropriate rights or permission to use any content you upload, import, process, compile, publish, or distribute through TeXise.
So what belongs to TeXise?
This includes, but is not limited to, the TeXise name and branding, website and application design, platform source code, software, documentation, original graphics, and content created by us unless otherwise stated.
Third-party software, libraries, LaTeX packages, AI models, trademarks, and other third-party materials remain the property of their respective owners and may be subject to separate licences.
AI and third-party services
Some TeXise features can interact with artificial intelligence services.
Where TeXise supports local AI, compatible models may operate directly on your device without sending your project content to TeXise's servers.
Where you choose to connect an external AI provider using your own API key, information you submit to that provider may be transmitted directly to that provider in order to generate a response.
This may include text, prompts, document excerpts, source code, LaTeX content, citations, or other information you explicitly provide to the AI feature.
Third-party AI providers process information according to their own privacy policies, data retention practices, and terms of service.
You should avoid submitting sensitive or confidential information to a third-party AI provider unless you are comfortable with that provider's policies.
TeXise may also integrate with third-party services for purposes such as payments, licensing, authentication, infrastructure, error monitoring, AI functionality, or other features. Information is shared with those services only where reasonably required to provide the relevant functionality.
Compilation and server-side processing
TeXise may provide features that require documents or project files to be processed on a server, such as remote LaTeX compilation or other explicitly selected online features.
When you choose to use such a feature, the files and information required to complete that operation may be temporarily transmitted to and processed by TeXise's infrastructure.
We aim to limit server-side processing to the information required to perform the requested operation.
Where temporary processing environments are used, files may be removed after processing or session cleanup according to the design of the relevant feature.
Local projects are not automatically uploaded merely because remote processing features are available.
Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect TeXise accounts, infrastructure, and server-side data.
We maintain our software and dependencies and aim to apply relevant security updates when they become available.
We also design TeXise around the principle of minimising unnecessary server-side data collection. Keeping appropriate project and document data locally can reduce the amount of personal or research information that needs to be transmitted to or stored on our infrastructure.
However, no website, application, computer system, or method of electronic storage can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
You are also responsible for protecting your account credentials, devices, API keys, local files, research materials, and any third-party accounts connected to TeXise.
Policies concerning children
TeXise is not directed toward children under the age of 18.
We do not knowingly market, advertise, or otherwise target TeXise to children.
If you believe that a person under the age of 18 has created an account or provided personal information to TeXise, please contact us so that we can review the situation and take appropriate action.
Privacy modifications
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time as TeXise changes, new features are introduced, legal requirements change, or our data practices evolve.
When we change our privacy practices, this Privacy Policy will be updated accordingly.
If we make material changes that significantly affect how we handle your personal data, we may also notify registered users by email or through TeXise.
We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically so that you understand how TeXise handles your information.
Privacy acceptance
By accessing or using TeXise, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy.
Your use of TeXise is also subject to any applicable Terms of Service and other policies made available through the service.
