Terms of Service
Terms of Service
We value transparency, and that means not hiding behind big words and unnecessarily long Terms of Service pages. We will try to keep these terms as short and clear as possible.
Accounts
You need an account to access certain features of TeXise.
Your account credentials are your responsibility. We take account security seriously and use reasonable measures to protect your account from our end, but we cannot protect credentials that are exposed through your email account, browser, device, password manager, personal notes, or by sharing them with another person.
You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure.
You may not share your TeXise account with other people unless we explicitly provide a feature or plan that allows account sharing.
Your account may contain personal information, licence or subscription entitlements, purchase information, connected services, preferences, and access to premium features. Because of this, you should not allow anyone else to access your account.
We may suspend, restrict, or terminate an account where we reasonably believe that:
- the account has been compromised or is insecure;
- these Terms of Service have been violated;
- our Privacy Policy has been violated;
- the account is being used fraudulently or unlawfully;
- the account is being used to interfere with or damage TeXise, its infrastructure, its users, or its services; or
- suspension or termination is reasonably necessary to protect TeXise or other users.
Where reasonably possible, we will try to provide notice before terminating an account, unless immediate action is required for security, fraud prevention, legal, or operational reasons.
Lifetime access
Where TeXise offers a one-time purchase described as Lifetime, Lifetime Access, or similar wording, "lifetime" refers to the lifetime of the relevant TeXise product or service.
A Lifetime purchase does not mean the lifetime of the purchaser.
A Lifetime licence provides access to the features included with that licence for as long as the relevant TeXise service continues to exist and be offered.
We may change, replace, improve, discontinue, or restructure individual features over time as TeXise evolves.
A Lifetime licence does not guarantee that every feature, third-party service, AI model, LaTeX package source, integration, compiler environment, or external provider available at the time of purchase will remain available permanently.
Subscription plans
Where TeXise offers a recurring monthly or other subscription plan, access to the paid features included with that plan continues while the subscription remains active and payments remain current.
If you cancel a recurring subscription, your premium access may continue until the end of the period you have already paid for unless otherwise stated at the time of purchase.
After your paid period ends, your account may revert to the features available under the applicable free or non-subscribed plan.
Local-first data
TeXise is designed to be local first.
Depending on the feature you use, LaTeX projects, source files, bibliographies, research materials, notes, PDFs, uploaded assets, application data, generated content, API keys, and other workspace information may remain stored locally in your browser, device, or filesystem.
TeXise may not have access to, or maintain backups of, data that is stored only on your device.
You are responsible for maintaining appropriate backups of important local data.
Clearing browser storage, deleting application data, removing files, changing devices, resetting your browser, losing access to a filesystem location, or other local actions may permanently remove locally stored information.
We cannot restore information that was never transmitted to or stored by TeXise.
Compilation and server-side processing
TeXise may provide features that require project files or document content to be sent to a server for processing, including remote LaTeX compilation or other explicitly selected online features.
When you choose to use one of these features, the files and information required to perform the requested operation may be temporarily transmitted to and processed by TeXise infrastructure.
You give TeXise permission to process those files solely for the purpose of providing the feature you requested.
Where temporary compilation or processing environments are used, files may be deleted after processing, download, session expiry, or workspace cleanup according to the design of the relevant feature.
TeXise does not automatically upload an entire local project merely because remote compilation or other server-side features are available.
You are responsible for maintaining copies of important source files and generated outputs.
Compilation results may vary because of package versions, compiler versions, fonts, operating environments, dependencies, third-party packages, or changes to TeXise's compilation infrastructure.
AI features
TeXise may provide features that use local or third-party artificial intelligence models.
AI-generated content can be inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, misleading, incorrectly cited, improperly formatted, or inappropriate for your particular circumstances.
You are responsible for reviewing and verifying AI-generated output before relying on it.
This includes verifying:
- factual claims;
- mathematical or scientific content;
- references and citations;
- bibliographic information;
- LaTeX syntax;
- code;
- equations;
- generated summaries; and
- academic or research conclusions.
TeXise should not be treated as a substitute for qualified professional advice in areas including medicine, law, finance, safety, engineering, or other high-risk decisions.
Where TeXise allows you to connect your own AI provider through a Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) feature, your use of that provider is also subject to the provider's own terms, pricing, usage limits, privacy practices, and policies.
TeXise does not control third-party AI providers and cannot guarantee their continued availability, pricing, model behaviour, or service quality.
Your content
You retain ownership of content that you create, upload, import, compile, or store using TeXise.
This may include:
- LaTeX source files;
- research papers;
- manuscripts;
- theses and dissertations;
- notes;
- bibliographies;
- citation databases;
- images;
- figures;
- tables;
- datasets;
- generated PDFs;
- uploaded resources;
- AI-assisted content; and
- other material you create or manage using TeXise.
You are responsible for ensuring that you have the legal right to use, upload, process, compile, publish, or distribute content that you use with TeXise.
We do not claim ownership of your content simply because you use TeXise to create, edit, compile, or work with it.
Where a feature requires server-side processing, you give TeXise the limited permission necessary to process that content solely for the purpose of providing the requested feature.
Copyright and third-party materials
You must not knowingly use TeXise to upload, reproduce, distribute, or publish material in a way that infringes another person's copyright, trademark, privacy rights, or other legal rights.
TeXise may allow projects to use external LaTeX packages, fonts, templates, datasets, images, code, or other third-party materials.
Those materials may have their own licences or usage restrictions.
You are responsible for ensuring that your use of third-party materials complies with their applicable licences and terms.
Content removal
In some circumstances we may need to remove, restrict, block, or disable content or access to a feature.
This may happen for legal, security, copyright, abuse, technical, or policy reasons.
Where TeXise operates primarily on local data, we may not be technically able to inspect or remove content stored exclusively on your device.
We may also suspend access to server-side processing where a project or account is being used in a way that could harm infrastructure, consume unreasonable resources, violate applicable law, or interfere with other users.
Purchase methods
Payments and licence fulfilment may be processed through Payhip or another payment provider shown at checkout.
Payment providers may process information such as your name, email address, payment information, transaction details, licence information, and billing information according to their own Terms of Service and Privacy Policies.
TeXise does not normally receive or store your complete payment card details when payments are processed by an external payment provider.
Refunds
Any refund period or refund eligibility stated on the TeXise checkout page, pricing page, or payment provider page at the time of purchase forms part of the applicable purchase terms.
Where a refund is approved, access to the refunded premium licence, subscription, or paid features may be removed.
Refund requests may also be subject to the policies of the payment provider used to complete the transaction.
Nothing in these terms limits any refund or consumer rights that you are legally entitled to under applicable law.
Using TeXise at your own risk
TeXise is provided as a LaTeX editing, research, writing, compilation, productivity, and AI-assisted workspace.
Anyone permitted to use TeXise under these terms is responsible for how they use the platform and for the content they create, import, generate, compile, publish, or distribute.
We do not routinely review local user content for accuracy, legality, copyright compliance, academic integrity, or other compliance matters.
We are not responsible for determining whether content created by a user or generated with the assistance of an AI model is truthful, accurate, original, lawful, properly cited, compilable, or suitable for a particular purpose.
You are responsible for reviewing your work before submitting, publishing, distributing, compiling, or relying on it.
Academic and research use
TeXise may be used for research, academic writing, technical documentation, publishing, learning, citation management, and other scholarly activities.
You are responsible for following the academic integrity requirements, AI usage rules, citation requirements, authorship requirements, assessment policies, publication policies, research ethics requirements, and other rules imposed by your school, university, employer, journal, publisher, funding body, professional organisation, or other institution.
TeXise does not guarantee that AI-generated or AI-assisted content will comply with those requirements.
You are responsible for checking references and citations before submitting academic or professional work.
AI systems may generate citations, references, DOI numbers, authors, journal titles, or publication details that are incomplete or incorrect.
LaTeX compilation
TeXise aims to provide a reliable LaTeX writing and compilation environment, but we cannot guarantee that every LaTeX project will compile successfully.
Compilation can fail for many reasons, including:
- invalid LaTeX syntax;
- incompatible packages;
- unavailable packages;
- missing fonts;
- missing files;
- unsupported shell commands;
- compiler restrictions;
- package conflicts;
- resource limits;
- malformed bibliography files;
- unsupported document classes; or
- third-party package changes.
A document compiling successfully in one TeX environment does not guarantee that it will compile identically in another environment.
You are responsible for reviewing generated PDFs and compilation logs before relying on or distributing the output.
Third-party websites and services
TeXise may contain links to, integrate with, or allow you to interact with third-party websites and services.
These may include:
- AI providers;
- payment processors;
- code repositories;
- citation and research services;
- external resources;
- APIs;
- package repositories; or
- other online services.
We do not own or control those third-party services.
When you use a third-party service, you should review its Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
Your use of those services is governed by the terms between you and the applicable third-party provider.
Availability
We aim to keep TeXise reliable and available, but we cannot guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation.
Features may occasionally become unavailable due to maintenance, upgrades, security issues, infrastructure failures, compilation service failures, third-party outages, software bugs, package repository problems, or circumstances outside our reasonable control.
We may add, modify, replace, or remove features as TeXise develops.
We may also modify compilation environments, available packages, resource limits, AI integrations, storage behaviour, or other technical components where necessary to maintain or improve the service.
Resource limits and fair use
Some TeXise features may use shared computing resources, including compilation, AI, storage, networking, or processing infrastructure.
We may apply reasonable limits to protect the service and provide fair access to users.
You must not intentionally use TeXise in a way that causes excessive or unreasonable resource consumption, attempts to bypass usage limits, disrupts shared infrastructure, or interferes with other users.
Where appropriate, resource limits may vary between free, subscription, and Lifetime plans.
Security
You must not attempt to:
- gain unauthorised access to TeXise systems or other user accounts;
- bypass authentication, licensing, entitlement, or security controls;
- deliberately interfere with TeXise infrastructure;
- distribute malware or malicious code through the service;
- use compilation features to execute unauthorised or harmful commands;
- attempt to escape or bypass compilation sandbox restrictions;
- probe or exploit vulnerabilities in a manner that may harm TeXise or its users;
- use automated systems in a way that creates unreasonable load; or
- use TeXise for unlawful activity.
Good-faith security research should be reported responsibly rather than used to damage the service or access information without permission.
Policies concerning children
TeXise is not directed toward children under the age of 18.
We do not knowingly market or advertise TeXise to children.
If you believe that a person under the age of 18 has created an account or provided personal information to TeXise, please contact us so that we can review the situation and take appropriate action.
Updating these terms
We may update these Terms of Service as TeXise changes, new features are introduced, legal requirements change, or our business and technical practices evolve.
Minor changes may be made without individual notification.
Where we make a material change that significantly affects your rights or use of TeXise, we may notify registered users by email or through the TeXise service.
Emails relating specifically to changes to these Terms of Service, our Privacy Policy, account security, purchases, licences, or other essential service matters are transactional communications and are not marketing emails.
Continued use of TeXise after updated terms become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated terms to the extent permitted by applicable law.
Reporting content or abuse
If TeXise provides a reporting feature for the relevant content or activity, please use that feature.
If no reporting feature is available, you can contact us through the available support channel.
When reporting content, copyright issues, security problems, or abuse, please provide enough information for us to understand and investigate the issue.
